Language on the Move is turning seven!

Happy anniversary and to the next seven years!

Happy anniversary and to the next seven years!

Language on the Move first went live today seven years ago, on October 04, 2009. We are super-excited to have been running this sociolinguistics research site devoted to multilingualism, language learning and intercultural communication in the contexts of globalization and migration ever since. In the past seven years, Language on the Move has established itself as a global force in sociolinguistics and was recently identified as one of three global networks in our discipline “that have been remarkably productive for the dissemination of new, critical sociolinguistic ideas and analysis, and for building capacity in European and global sociolinguistics” (Coupland, 2016, p. 20)

Originally set up as a research blog, Language on the Move now also hosts a range of additional sociolinguistics resources – such as our PhD Hall of Fame – and is flanked by a lively social media presence on Twitter and Facebook.

Language on the Move wouldn’t be what it is without our many readers and visitors from around the globe. In order to recognize your contribution, we are celebrating by giving you the opportunity to win one of five copies of Ingrid Piller’s new book Linguistic Diversity and Social Justice.

To enter the draw, you need to be a subscriber to the Language on the Move newsletter. If you are not yet subscribed, sign up in the “Newsletter Subscription” line in the footer of any Language on the Move page by November 01, 2016.

Good luck and thank you for your support! To the next seven years!

All e-addresses subscribed to the Language on the Move newsletter by November 01, 2016 will enter into a draw to win one of five author-signed copies of Linguistic Diversity and Social Justice.

The winners will be selected based upon a random drawing after November 01, 2016. Winners will be notified via e-mail and asked for their postal address. If we receive no response from a winner within a week, we will select a new winner. We will ship a copy of Linguistic Diversity and Social Justice to each winner at no charge to the winner.

Language on the Move reserves the right, in our sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the draw should a virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond our control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the draw.
