
Vera Williams Tetteh
Vera is currently completing a PhD under the supervision of Ingrid and Kimie. Her thesis is a sociolinguistic ethnographic study which looks at the language learning and settlement trajectories of forty-seven adult black African immigrant men and women living in Sydney and Wagga Wagga. The study aims to understand the relationship between second language learning (SLL) and settlement success. Vera holds a BA Honours Degree (Class 1) in Linguistics from Macquarie University. She has tutored undergraduate and postgraduate linguistics students.
Vera’s research interests are in the areas of second language teaching and learning, language and identity, English as a global language, social inclusion and immigrant settlement, intercultural communication, African studies and African diasporan studies.
Vera has been encouraged by all the resources available on Language-on-the-Move. She has drawn tremendously on these resources as well as insights from blog postings to shape her thinking in her own research.
