In Japan Aki Shiraishi was searching for ways to change her life. In 2001, she finally made the decision to come to Australia to become a qualified Japanese language teacher. Successfully completing the certificate course, she taught Japanese as a home tutor and at a language school, before finding work as Admission Coordinator at Centre for Macquarie University. In this interview, she reflects on her English proficiency in the early days in Australia and on her sense of belonging to her multicultural workplace.
