Jenny Zhang, a member of the Language on the Move team, received a 2010 Higher Degree Research Excellence Award from the Faculty of Human Sciences at Macquarie University. Congratulations, Jenny!
Jenny’s PhD work, which is supervised by Ingrid and Kimie, is an investigation of the role of the Beijing Olympics in 2008 in shaping the language policies and practices of Beijing as an Olympic city. Her research aims to contribute to literatures on ideologies of English language teaching and learning in China, identity and language learning, and Olympic studies.
Jenny was one of several award recipients this year and was chosen on the basis of the outstanding progress she has made in her doctoral research, her success in winning a grant for an additional research project devoted to gender identities and English language learning, and her participation at domestic and international conferences. The award was announced by Professor Janet Greeley, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences, and as Jenny was away on field work in China, Ingrid received the award on Jenny’s behalf. Jenny herself was participating in the ceremony virtually through Skype. The Language-on-the-Move team is always on the move!
Congratulations, Jenny! All the best to you and your family in China.
